Varanasi, 17 September 2018: Sterlite Power has successfully doubled the power capacity on the Gajokhar-Manduadih S/C & Varanasi Cantt -LILO point D/C transmission lines. The uprated transmission lines will transfer 1600 Ampere, up from 700 Ampere earlier, resulting in two-fold increase. The ageing transmission lines were upgraded 2 months ahead of schedule.
Indian railways owned Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), the largest diesel-electric locomotive manufacturer in India, along with residents of the region will benefit from the project.
Manish Agarwal, CEO, Sterlite Power – Solutions Business, said, “The project was completed in just 107 days of shutdown as opposed to 180 days as per the contract. The project would positively impact lives of 1.5 to 2 lakh people residing in the region. Our focus was to mitigate grid congestion by augmenting power transfer capacity, improve line efficiency and enhance system reliability. The project was concluded with minimum disturbance to the public and we thank the local administration and partners for their support in early completion of the project. With the completion of this project, we have upgraded more than 2,500 cKM of transmission lines in the country across 25 corridors.”
