Jabalpur Transmission Project (JTCL)

Jabalpur Transmission Company Limited (JTCL) was incorporated on September 8, 2009. It entered into a transmission service agreement dated December 1, 2010 and a transmission services agreement dated November 12, 2013 with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (the “JTCL TSA”). The JTCL project was awarded to Sterlite Power by the Ministry of Power on January 19, 2011 for a 35-year period from the scheduled commercial operation date, on a BOOM basis. JTCL alleviates transmission capacity bottlenecks and expands the reliability and stability of the power grid in western and northern India by providing open access to transmit power from the independent power projects in eastern India. The corridors thus created are crucial links, based on which the CTU (Central Transmission Utility) has entered into long-term open-access agreements with several generation companies in the eastern region of India.

PROJECT STORY

Our work on the transmission line for Jabalpur Transmission Company Limited (JTCL) initially faced ROW clearance issues during the planning phase. This was augmented by force majeure events, delays in obtaining forest clearances and a delay in obtaining authorization under Section 164 of the Electricity Act.

To obtain the ROW, overcome delays in clearance, and procure authorizations, our teams worked simultaneously with various entities to ensure that execution could be carried out in a timely manner. Delays on the project were compensated using heli-stringing to connect conductors between transmission towers.

Project Detail

JTCL operates two EHV overhead transmission lines of 994 ckms in the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh comprising one 765 kV dual circuit line of 758 ckms from Dharamjaygarh (Chhattisgarh) to Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) and one 765 kV single circuit line of 236 ckms from Jabalpur to Bina in Madhya Pradesh. We believe that the Jabalpur-Dharamjaygarh line of JTCL is India’s first 765 KV double circuit line owned by a private company. The JTCL Project was fully commissioned in September 2015.
