Sterlite Grid, an arm of Sterlite Technologies Ltd, on Saturday said it has commissioned a 200km long 400 KV transmission line to Rajasthan Atomic Power Project that would disburse power to Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana.

The company informed the stock exchanges that the transmission line would strengthen transmission systems of the Rajasthan project and help in swapping power between the Northern and Western grids.

“We are proud to commission the project ahead of schedule, a first for the transmission projects awarded under tariff-based competitive bidding,” a company statement said quoting Pravin Agarwal, chairman, Sterlite Grid.

The statement said the government allows projects that are completed ahead of schedule to earn tariff from the date of actual commissioning and that Sterlite’s Rajasthan project would be eligible for it.

With this, Sterlite Grid has commissioned four out of seven projects in eight states.

It added that its ongoing projects in Purulia and Kharagpur and in Maheshwaram were also on track.

Sterlite Grid recently won a Rs.2,596 crore transmission project in Odisha under competitive bidding.

The government intends to auction transmission projects with a cost of about Rs.1 trillion which would be awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding.
