MTCIL signs 15 year agreement for IRU fiber lease in Maharashtra

  • The first route spans 50 Kms from Kalwa to Padgha.
  • The deal will result in near 100% network uptime from Kalwa (Mumbai) to Padgha link.

Mumbai, 27 February 2019: Sterlite Power’s Convergence business which manages the fiber network of MTCIL has given Indefeasible Right of Use (IRU) to a public sector entity for 15 years. The Kalwa to Padgha network is one of the busiest networks in the state of Maharashtra and plays a critical role in providing 100% uptime for the public sector entity. The company will provide dark fiber on Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on 400 KV EHV transmission lines. Sterlite Power’s Convergence business partners with national and state utilities for either a greenfield buildout of their OPGW network or a brownfield lease out of existing OPGW network. These OPGW fibre optic cables provide insulation to the towers and carry telecommunication data.

Pratik Agarwal, Group CEO, Sterlite Power, said, “Sterlite Power’s Convergence business is a leading provider of connectivity solutions for power and telecom companies in India. The business aims to create a reliable data network by leveraging existing utility fiber infrastructure, either its own or through its partners’ assets. We appreciate the opportunity to work on this critical line and help in delivering a robust network for end users.”
